An Epic Passage Through Scotland with the

Royal Scotsman

Highland Majesty: An Unforgettable Passage Across Scotland

Aboard the Royal Scotsman, the golden age of rail travel returns amid the sweeping drama of the Scottish Highlands. Polished wood interiors, rich tartans and Edwardian elegance create an intimate sanctuary on rails, where lochs, glens and mist-shrouded peaks unfold beyond your window.

In the refined dining cars, seasonal Scottish cuisine — from fresh seafood to Highland game — is paired with fine wines and rare whiskies, while evenings gather in the Observation Car beneath vast northern skies. Curated excursions to storied castles, legendary distilleries and remote landscapes deepen the journey, weaving together heritage, wilderness and quiet indulgence into one unforgettable Highland escape.

The Spirit of the Scottish Highlands by Train

Departing from Edinburgh Waverley Station, the elegant Belmond Royal Scotsman carries you deep into the Scottish Highlands, tracing a scenic path through Perthshire and into the dramatic landscapes of the Cairngorms National Park. Evenings on board are defined by refined dining and convivial entertainment, while days reveal enchanting natural beauty. A highlight awaits at Rothiemurchus Estate, where food anthropologist Ghillie Basan shares insights into Highland wildlife, survival traditions and seasonal cuisine, complemented by an outdoor barbecue and fireside tasting experience.

Back on the rails, the journey continues through Inverness and along the coastlines of Aberdeenshire and Angus, with the option to visit Strathisla Distillery, home to the malt whisky used in Chivas Regal. A gala dinner accompanied by live jazz provides a fitting finale before a leisurely breakfast heralds your return to Edinburgh — a short yet richly layered immersion into Scotland’s landscapes, flavours and timeless rail elegance.
